Using online business networks to get ahead in business is all about showing off. What do I mean? Showing off how smart you are! It’s not about friending people, it’s not about drunk pictures from the weekend, it’s not about joining every single group, it’s not about welcoming people to the network–it’s about creating useful content.
In business it’s not about what you know; it’s who you know.
In online networking it’s not about who you know; it’s what you know!
When networking online, you can “Talk to anyone, skip secretaries, connect with them via Twitter / Facebook / Linkedin.” If you want to build a solid network, you need to provide your network with quality content–it’s about “what you know”. Share good stuff with your network and they’ll learn to trust and like you. Even if you don’t have good thoughts of your own, sending people links on StumbleUpon and Digg can build huge networks!
Effective networking, is about what you can provide for your contacts. Networking online makes it easy to provide usefulness to your contacts! Check back Tuesday for a mega list of ways you can provide useful content for your network!!!
Until then, step up the plate, pump out good stuff for your network of contacts!
