To a certain degree its all about who you know, but at some point you’ll meet so many people you’ll never remember them all.  The best solution to remembering everyone? DON’T.  Get them to remember you.  You need to give them something to remember.  You need a way to stay in contact with lots of people–precisely why blogging and social networking are vital in growing your network to a large scale.

  • Hey Matt,

That's a great problem to have (i.e. too many contacts).

I think I have an idea to help you out. Here goes.

Since you need to track contacts. And you have an iPhone. And you have a WordPress blog. You could create a contact database, online, put everyone into one database (noting their user accounts for all the social networks you know them from) and then password protect it, say inside your blog. That way, you pull out your iPhone, log-in to your WordPress (for iPhone 2.0), and you can pull up or update any contact, from anywhere you can access the internet. How's that sound?
  • Matt, thanks for making this video. Finding a solution to make it simpler to stay in touch with people that you care about on a mass scale is something we both have been attempting to come up with for a while!

You made me think of something, I think it's important to be make it easy for others to be able to get in touch with you and stay connected with you. Email newsletters, personal websites, all the social networks - it's all about being transparent, approachable, and easily *contact-able (is that a word?)

Great point on branding yourself in memorable ways too. I think many people remember you because you are branding yourself as a go-to resource for young entrepreneurs.

I'm very curious to learn tips on organizing contacts and staying in touch with large amount of friends, so that one might be able to continuously help others on a large scale!
